Cut steel belt buckle
Fibbia da cintura "cut steel"
The technique with which the decorations of this buckle are made is called "cut steel"; they are steel beads that are faceted to look like precious gems and then riveted to a metal base. It originates in France in 1700, when King Louis XV asked citizens to donate gold and jewels to finance the 7-year war; instead of real jewels, donated or hidden, these jewels became very fashionable.
This large brass buckle with classic Art Nouveau motifs is a product of the early 1900s. In good conditions, two beads are missing.

La tecnica con cui sono realizzate le decorazioni di questa fibbia si chiama "cut steel"; sono delle perline in acciaio sfaccettate in modo da sembrare gemme preziose e poi rivettate su una base metallica. Ha origine nella Francia del 1700, quando il re Luigi XV chiede ai cittadini di donare oro e gioie per finanziare la guerra dei 7 anni; al posto dei gioielli veri, donati o nascosti, diventano di gran di moda i gioielli cosi' confezionati.
Questa grande fibbia in ottone con i classici motivi dell'Art Nouveau e' un prodotto dei primi decenni del 1900. In buone condizioni, mancano due perline.
