The origins of chalcedony glass date back to the 15th century. This technique was aimed at imitating semi-precious stones such as agate, onyx and jasper. Fallen into disuse and forgotten in the 17th century, it was rediscovered during the 1800s and again adopted by the master glassmakers of Venice.
This bottle, from the first half of 1900, is a classic example: with its shades from white to dark green it perfectly imitates agate.

Le origini del vetro calcedonio risalgono al XV secolo. Questa tecnica era mirata ad imitare pietre dure e semipreziose come l'agata , l'onice ed il diaspro. Caduta in disuso e dimenticata nel XVII secolo, fu riscoperta durante il 1800 e nuovamente adottata dai maestri vetrai di Venezia.
Questa bottiglia, della prima met'a del 1900, ne e' un classico esempio: con le sue sfumature dal bianco al verde scuro imita perfettamente l'agata.
