This basket of millefiori murrine is a true classic of Murano glass production. Murrine have a thousand-year history; produced for the first time over 3000 years ago in the Middle East, they were then neglected for centuries due to the high cost and difficult production. It was only during the second half of the 1800s that the Venetian glass masters recalled and perfected the technique, creating the "millefiori" sticks, use to make this small basket.

Questo cestino di murrine millefiori e' un vero classico della produzione vetraria di Murano. Le murrine hanno una storia millenaria; prodotte per la prima volta oltre 3000 anni fa in Medio Oriente, sono state poi trascurate per secoli a causa dell'alto costo e difficile realizzazione. E' solo durante la seconda meta' del 1800 che i maestri vetrai veneziani rievocano e perfezionano la tecnica, creando le bacchette "millefiori", di cui e' composto questo piccolo cesto.
