The art of Venetian glass beads has been documented since the 13th century; they were used as a bargaining chip, and also as "currency", in Eastern and African countries. The only glass art that was allowed to remain in Venice when, to protect the city from fires, the large furnaces were forced to move to the island of Murano.
Production and export developed rapidly during the 19th century and the tradition continues today in the Venetian streets and in Murano.
The setting and the bow at the end are very deteriorated; the necklace will have to be assembled again, but we left it like this to demonstrate the vintage origin, from the first half of the 1900s.
The pearls, made with the lampwork technique, have a diameter of 9 mm and are interspersed with conteria pearls of smaller diameter. Total length of the necklace: about 75 Cm.
L'arte delle perle di vetro Veneziane e' documentata fin dal XIII secolo; furono utilizzate come merce di scambio, e anche come "moneta", nei paesi orientali ed africani. Unica arte vetraria a cui fu permesso di rimanere a Venezia quando, per proteggere la citta' dagli incendi, le grandi fornaci furono obbligate a spostarsi sull'isola di Murano.
La produzione e l'esportazione si svilupparono rapidamente durante il XIX secolo e la tradizione continua ancora oggi nelle calli Veneziane ed a Murano.
La montatura ed il fiocco all'estremita' sono molto deteriorati; la collana dovra' essere nuovamente montata, ma la abbiamo lasciata cosi' per dimostrare l'origine vintage, della prima meta' del 1900.
Le perle, realizzate con la tecnica a lume, hanno un diametro di 9 mm e sono intercalate con perle di conteria di minor diametro. Lunghezza totale della collana: circa 75 Cm.
