Before the advent of photography, silhouette portraits became popular, as they were faster and cheaper than a real portrait. Sometimes the artists of this technique took advantage of their ability to create other subjects, as in these two specimens, which represent two bucolic scenes.
Probably made between the end of the 1800s and the first decades of the 1900s, these two silhouettes were mounted on a cardboard fixed directly to the glass that protects them.

Prima dell'avvento della fotografia divennero popolari i ritratti di silhouette, in quanto erano piĆ¹ veloci ed economici di un ritratto vero e proprio. A volte gli artisti di questa tecnica approfittavano della loro abilita' per creare altri soggetti, come in questi due esemplari, che rappresentano due scene bucoliche.
Probabilmente realizzate fra la fine del 1800 ed i primi decenni del 1900, queste due silhouette sono state montate su un cartone fissato direttamente al vetro che le protegge.
