Before the advent of photography, silhouette portraits became popular, as they were faster and cheaper than a real portrait. Sometimes the artists of this technique took advantage of their ability to create other subjects, as in these two specimens, which represent two bucolic scenes.
From the second half of the XIX century, this silhouette represents a female profile; the beautiful coeval frame is in wood and elegantly decorated in black painted stucco.
Signed on the lower right "D. Tucker".

Prima dell'avvento della fotografia divennero popolari i ritratti di silhouette, in quanto erano piĆ¹ veloci ed economici di un ritratto vero e proprio. A volte gli artisti di questa tecnica approfittavano della loro abilita' per creare altri soggetti, come in questi due esemplari, che rappresentano due scene bucoliche.
Della seconda meta' del XIX secolo, questa silhouette rappresenta un profilo femminile; la bella cornice coeva e' in legno e decorata elegantemente in stucco dipinto di nero.
Firmata in basso a destra "D. Tucker".
