Before the advent of photography, silhouette portraits became popular, as they were faster and cheaper than a real portrait. Sometimes the artists of this technique took advantage of their ability to create other subjects, as in these specimens, which represent different scenes.
These silhouettes were given to grandfather Buonaventura by the author, a stranger who cut them out from newspaper in front of him in a few minutes while they were talking sitting at the cafe. About 1930s
Three frames are in wood, while the other two are in embossed and gilded brass, with a curious way to open them.
Prima dell'avvento della fotografia divennero popolari i ritratti di silhouette, in quanto erano piĆ¹ veloci ed economici di un ritratto vero e proprio. A volte gli artisti di questa tecnica approfittavano della loro abilita' per creare altri soggetti, come in questi esemplari, che rappresentano diverse scene.
Queste silhouettes furono regalate al nonno Buonaventura dall'autore, uno sconosciuto che le ha ritagliate davanti a lui in pochi minuti da un giornale, mentre discorrevano seduti al caffe'. Circa nel 1930
Tre cornici sono in legno, mentre le altre due sono in ottone sbalzato e dorato, con un curioso sistema per aprirle.
