John Miers (1756–1821) was the most famous English silhouette artist of his time and his fame still keeps his memory alive today. After working in various northern cities, in 1788 he established his studio in central London, where he produced tens of thousands of works together with his students and collaborators.
We do not know the name of the subject of this silhouette painted on ivory, which Miers signed at the bottom left, confirming that this is his creation and not a work produced by another member of his atelier.
The frame is not the original one, but it is still from the same period; made of finely carved ebony, it has some missing pieces.

John Miers (1756–1821) fu il più famoso artista inglese di silhouette della sua epoca e la sua fama mantiene viva la sua memoria ancora oggi. Dopo aver lavorato in varie citta' del Nord, nel 1788 stabilisce il suo studio nel centro di Londra, dove produce decine di migliaia di opere insieme ai suoi allievi e collaboratori.
Non conosciamo il nome del soggetto di questa silhouette dipinta su avorio, che Miers ha firmato in basso a sinistra, a conferma che questa e' una sua creazione e non un opera prodotta da un altro membro del suo atelier.
La cornice non e' quella originale, ma e' comunque della stessa epoca; realizzata in ebano finemente scolpito, ha alcuni pezzi mancanti.
