Richard Cosway (1742-1821). Portrait miniature of an unknown sitter.
A very well known artist of his time, Cosway's paintings ranged through many subjects, but he was especially known for his miniature portrait paintings. Following the successful creation of several portraits of the Royal Family and aristocrats, in 1785 he was appointed "primarius pictor" by the Prince of Wales, who was later to become King George IV.

Un artista molto noto del suo tempo, i dipinti di Cosway spaziavano attraverso molti soggetti, ma era particolarmente noto per i suoi ritratti in miniatura. Dopo il successo riscontrato con la creazione di numerosi ritratti della famiglia reale e di importanti aristocratici, nel 1785 fu nominato "primarius pictor" dal Principe di Galles, che sarebbe poi diventato re Giorgio IV.
