Copper foil print on paper representing the "Certosa di Pavia".
This image is evidence of the resistance to the time of the ancient medieval buildings. Conceived in the 14th century and completed in about 50 years, in 1400, the "Certosa" is perfectly recognizable in its present appearance in this representation, almost 300 year old.
The engraver of this work is Francesco Cepparuli, Neapolitan, active at the Court of the King of the Two Sicilies around 1750. He was the author of the famous illustrations of the excavations of Herculaneum.
Various of his works are catalogued and preserved in the Italian archives and at the Prado Museum in Madrid.
This illustration comes from the book "The Present State of All Countries and Peoples of the World." The original, by Tommaso Salomon, was published in Venice in 1751, while this page belongs to a copy, apparently unauthorized, published in Naples in 1754.

testimonianza della resistenza al tempo delle antiche costruzioni medioevali. Concepita nel XIV secolo e completata in circa 50 anni, nel 1400, la Certosa e' perfettamente riconoscibile nel suo aspetto odierno in questa rappresentazione di quasi 300 anni fa.
L'incisore e' Francesco Cepparuli, napoletano attivo alla Corte del re delle Due Sicilie intorno al 1750. Fu autore delle famose illustrazioni degli scavi di Ercolano. Varie sue opere sono catalogate e conservate negli archivi Italiani ed al Museo del Prado a Madrid.
Questa illustrazione proviene dal volume “Lo Stato Presente di Tutti i Paesi e Popoli del Mondo". Il libro originale, di Tommaso Salomon, fu pubblicato a Venezia nel 1751, mentre questa pagina appartiene ad una copia, apparentemente non autorizzata, pubblicata a Napoli nel 1754.
In basso a destra si notano le iniziali dell'artista, firmate sulla lastra.
